Season starts...

No rumour Tuesday due to lack of, well, rumours. Perhaps after the first training session next week it will start up again.

For some of us the season starts even earlier as the committee will meet for the first time this week in preparation for the AGM.

I had a quick look at the pitch over the weekend (albeit from the gate) and it is looking ready for action.

Guess Who's Back?

Chuck Martini must have missed his trip to the Grove so much he has signed up with relegated Kingstonian to repeat the trip. Hopefully his trip will be less controversial than his recent encounters...

Poll Result

The much awaited clash of the local rivals is the most anticipated game of the pre-season, with Dorking getting the most votes. The visit of Sutton came a close second. No one voted for the midweek trip to our old league rivals Bracknell.

Getting More Friendly

Tanners will also be AWAY at Carshalton Athletic 3pm Sat 16 July! That is just three and a half weeks away and will provide us with a good stiff opener to get us ready for the season ahead. Also if memory serves me it is easy to get to by train to boot!

Millwall Still On?

The FA have made a ruling that all friendlies that host Premier or Coca League club must have a referee of the appropriate standard, as well as a further official of a suitable standard. This will no doubt hit the non-league clubs hard with the increased cost of such officials and in some cases may make the venture simply unprofitable.

Does this cast doubt over Millwalls visit...? Stay tuned for further announcements via the Official Site!

Chipstead Are Coming

Another pre-season fixture has been added with the visit of Chipstead on Tuesday, 2 August. A full list of pre-season friendlies can be found on the Official Site.

Mackie's Free

Sad news from the MK Dons as Jamie Mackie has been released this season. Probably one of the best players to be produced from the Tanners Youth he failed to make an impression after just a handful of games.

It is likely Alex will be keen to take him to Exeter, but failing that he could do a lot worse than to put on the shirt that made him the player that he is...

Rumour Tuesday

The Lip! has been at its quietest since its creation nearly two years ago with little news being created during this long month of June. This weeks rumour was given to me by a mate who is a AFC Wimbledon supporter...

With their promotion and two new signing the Dons are trying to offload some players that will not feature in their new campaign and Leatherhead is their preferred destination over ex-landlords Kingstonian. One name that was mentioned was Robert Ursell, the young tricky midfielder!

I think Robert is unlikely but the cances of picking up valuable players from AFC Wimbledon is a possibibility...

A wild rumour has come my way that we have a pick of Chelsea youth players. The clubs training ground is only up the road and we have been approached to take on a few lads to give them football in a more competitive environment.

I suspect this is a few Chelsea fans pulling my leg so...

Travelling Tanners

That genius Tony Kempster has again developed the map and mileage for our travels next season. Our longest trip is 91 miles to Lymington while our shortest trip is just 8 miles to Corinthian Casuals... although you can add a few on if you miss the turning and head back onto the A3!

The Glazers Move In At Leatherhead

No, not a power struggle between Tim and American tycoons but new windows have been fitted round the Tanners Lounge to help smarten the place up and not to mention added security.
When we say the ceiling has been lowered, it isn’t to say we are dropping our expectations but the bar will soon boast a suspended ceiling.

This gives you just a flavour of what the club is doing behind the scenes to get ready for the new season and continue to improve the bar for future income. I’m just off to the Guinness Book of Records to see what the record is for the most number of puns in article!
