Tanners 1 - 0 'Leafe

In atrocious conditions that gradually worsened as the game went on, the two sides contrived to produce an entertaining game - made all the more palatable for Tanners fans by 3 points from Stevo's first half strike.

For a full match report (Moler stylee) see the messageboard.

Well done lads, hard lines 'Leafe!

'Leafe game

Just spoken to Gerald, the pitch has drained pretty well after yesterday's deluge, so with rain not forecast until well into the afternoon, the game is definitely ON. It will be heavy underfoot, as they say.

Details of an 'early bird' Season Ticket offer will be available at today's game. You can buy your season ticket for next year at this years prices - provided you do so before the end of April. Details and an application form will be available as an insert in today's programme, Gail will also have them when she comes round with the raffle. Also available from me and in the bar.

See you there!

Whyteleafe Are Coming

Whyteleafe are coming to the Grove in what looks to be a heavy pitch after the Youth game became a casualty last night and we have received more rain since.

Whyteleafe must be smarting after losing a two goal lead in a smash and grab game over that their place back in January. The last 20 minutes of games were exciting back then as we had done the same to Molesey just 10 days earlier.

Kick off at 3pm!

Ks 1 - 0 Tanners

Another one nil for the Tanners to contemplate after suffering to a Tommy Williams' 12th minute free kick.

For a long time the Boosey Magic that impressed us at the Met has been absent but today he came on and brought the save of the match.

Steve McNamara was sent off in the closing minutes for a second bookable offense but by then the points were in the back pocket. It could have been different had the ref applied the laws of the game when Dave Stevens was brought down when through on goal.

News of Worthing drawing in the morning morning saw wild celebrations on the final whistle as they move back up to there or there abouts.
Travelling Tanners

Today Leatherhead travel to arch rivals Kingstonian in the SUPER MONDAY clash which Sky Sports have failed to pick up. Still never mind, there is plenty of interest for us with ex-Tanners floating around and a chance to cause their promotion push to stutter.

Leatherhead are going to have to improve though on their Saturday's performance. The goal hungry attacking side that travelled to Dulwich will have to be found again if we are to get a shot on target let alone a goal. The defense will have to be ready... they have scored three in their last three league games!

Directions

Take the A3 to the New Malden/Worcester Park turn-off into Malden Road (A2043). Follow Malden Road to the roundabout and turn left into Kingston Road. From here Kingsmeadow is signposted and is situated approximately 1 mile up the Kingston Road, on the left-hand side.

Tanners 0 – 1 Dover

With the slapstick words from the Dulwich reporter still ringing in Adam France’s ears he must have feared the worst when Percy handed him his number 1 uniform… a red wig, comedy boots and a squeaky red nose.

Despite the large numbers the opening exchanges lacked atmosphere but then our shot stopper made things interesting by blasting the ball directly at an advancing striker. The resulting rebound sauntering casually into the back of the net. This is the second time in recent weeks the Dover striker has benefited in this way by all accounts.

Both goal keepers then went on to have an easy afternoon of it. If it were not for the snow a couple of deckchairs could have been provided to make their game more enjoyable.

The second half saw Leatherhead take the game to the largely makeshift Dover side and nearly got their reward when a low cross was spilled and Dave Stevens was quick to pounce but blasted wide.

So Dover inflict another 1-0 win over us but with their position in the table it looks like we will be spared another game with them for a while.

Dover Are Coming

Champions elect are coming to the Grove Saturday as they look to push on for the league title at the second time of asking. Lets face it, it is in the bag for them and hopefully that will work in our favour.

Dover have not been travelling well, bringing only two to three hundred into Surrey but hopefully the Bank Holiday and a 3pm kick-off will help!

See you there!

Dulwich 3 - 3 Tanners

Leatherhead gain an unlikely point on the road to Dulwich through goals from Billy Marshall (29), Carl Gibbs (32) and Matt Jones (52). Leatherhead lead for 15 minutes before they came back to make it 3-3.

A fine performance but with few travelling fans to witness it, with many taking the chance to see some other football on the Saturday. AFC Wimbledon gained a couple of travelling fans while Worcester Park gained by support.

Travelling Tanners

Well. Dulwich obviously know the weekend before Easter is a time for families so have arranged for an early kick-off. A staggering 19 hours early!

They seem to be full of big talk with “Clouds lowering, fans glowering as disjointed Dulwich, the promotion party in their sights, could only salvage a point against an earnest Chipstead”. I thought only Dover would get an automatic promotion slot and they would face the lottery of the play-offs?

Either way, Chipstead show points can be gained away at Dulwich but the performance on the pitch is going to have to improve considerably from last week.

Kick off at 7.45pm. See you there?

Tanners 0 – 1 Hillians

Where to start with this one? The end I think. Leatherhead lost a largely dull affair in a game played in a spirit that indicates that the home side have admitted privately there is nothing to play for despite saying the right things in public.

Billy Marshall stung the hands of one of the tallest ‘keepers I have seen in a long time on about three minutes… that was about it for us. There may have been a shot on target in the second half, difficult to say.

Their goal was a powerful shot that looked initially as if our ‘keeper had got to it, but such was the power it found its way into the net.

So. A Friday night in Dulwich awaits the Travelling Tanners.

Burgess Hill Are Coming

Burgess Hill come to the Grove today for a 3 o'clock kick-off. Are they a bogey side or will they be there or there abouts? Come to the Grove and see!

Croydon Athletic 1 – 1 Tanners

Many did not heed my words of long travel delays and so at 2.30 when it was just Dom and I in the bar we wondered how many had been drawn to the Vase… or to Dickie’s bed where he was laid up ill. By all accounts Pete Bowers was there to nurse him back to health.

Those who eventually made it saw a blistering first half where the visitors could have found themselves six goals the good. Four of the chances fell to Tommy Huttings whose powerful shots were straight at the ‘keeper. As was Andy Martin’s who got injured during his one to one.

On came Dave Stevens and before he could have a touch a Croydon player dived across goal to stop the goalward bound shot from going in with his arm. Stevens’ first touch was therefore to strike the ball down the centre from the spot to make it 1-0. Croydon now faced the task of getting back into the game with just 10 men to boot.

The second half was a different affair. Croydon and got themselves organised with just 10 men and there was almost an air of complacency about the Tanners performance where they only created one real chance. A clever lob from Stevens that went agonisingly wide.

Croydon kept promising to score with their lively striker showing some pace and trickery. He then won a free kick late in the second half on the left. The freekick was swung into the back post where it fell to the right wingers feet to tap in. Where were the central defenders to head the clearance? Where was the left back to track the run? Where are the two points dropped?

A disappointing end to a game where gruesome travel is always endured.

Travelling Tanners

This is a late update. Mainly because to get through the badlands of Croydon you need to be setting off in about 10 minutes! A win last week will help the drive though as it seems like it has been a long time in the coming.

Kick off at 3pm… see you there… traffic permitting

Directions

I would avoid going via Merstham as there will be a few extra cars there involved with the match day traffic as it is.

I never have worked out the best way to get there, I was told via Tooting but have tried the M25 too in the past.

You can find all of your transport needs on their website!
