Match abandoned (Leatherhead 0 - 2 Dulwich)
Let's all have a disco! |
Dulwich arrived at the Grove none too happy as it was. They did not
like the look of the pitch that had been worked on so hard and weren't
too keen to play but little did they know that this was the least of
their worries.
They brought with them a strange contingent of supporters. Between 30 to
40 teenage kids complete with onesies came along to cheer on Hamlet.
They proved to be decisive in how the game was to finish.
The game itself was a lively one. Leatherhead appeared to be having the best of it, while Dulwich did threaten, but a complete mix up allowed Dulwich to tap in and go in at half time 1-0 up.

Second half certainly looked more even. The closest chance came when Simmo struck the post from a curling free kick. One nil down and Kev Terry came on to try and repeat the feat of getting two last minute goals. He injected some pace but the ball was not falling for us today.
Then came the moment that turned the game. The Dulwich striker made some room for himself right of goal and fired powerfully to make it two nil. Over he ran to celebrate with his excitable onesie clad friends. Luckily for him he decided to rejoin play as a second later a large section of the wall that surrounds the pitch came crashing down.
At first this was greeted with a cheer. Then a silence as people were peeled from the top of it. The ref inspected the damage and despite Leatherhead officials trying to clear away the bricks he saw nails on the pitch from the broken advertising hoarding and called it off. Ugly scenes followed where Leatherhead players were accused of wanting it abandoned but the damage was done.
A no doubt unsatisfactory end to the game for Dulwich who at 2-0 with ten minutes to go would have felt the three points was theirs.

Dulwich are coming...?
Doesn't look like it... the Official site says "With the predicted weather forecast, our game with Dulwich is considered to be a major doubt this Saturday." which I think is a little pessimistic. I am hoping for a dry mild morning but that depends on how much snow lies I guess.

Game off...
Stating the obvious here but it appears Lingfield is off. Snow and lack of orange ball the reason.
See on Twitter how another non league club put us to shame.

Game off
For a moment I thought it would go ahead. Reports of no snow in the area could create a chance but no.
Game off.

Game off!
Today's much awaited game against Folkestone Invicta yet again has fallen due to yesterday's snow and rain leaving the pitch unplayable.

Tanners 3 - 1 Merstham
Leatherhead notch up a home win today to dispel the theory we can't win at home. It did not look like we would do it after ex-Tanner Macloed struck a beauty of a free kick over new (and now 8th) 'keeper.
It did not take us long to strike back though. A corner was sent to the far post and was greeted by Coyle who headed it in with apparent ease.
A goal a piece at half time and the second half started well for Leatherhead. The whistle was still warm from the ref's opening blow when Tommy decided to have a strike from way outside the box. The 'keeper flapped as the powerful strike dipped in off the crossbar. 2-1.
Leatherhead's third was fortuitous scored from another corner. As the ball was swung in Bradrook run to meet it was met by a defender and it appeared he opted to use his elbow to tap the ball into a dangerous area. Liam Wright was there to squeeze the ball near post. 3-1.
It soon turned a little nasty and a two footed tackle reduced Merstham to 10 men and went a long way to making all three points safe. A time killing period of five corners to Leatherhead saw some good chances not taken.

Merstham are coming
So a robust Sittingbourne performance sees our tidy run of wins come to an end and the fingers have been pointed to our home form. Tomorrow. Merstham come to the Grove to test this theory further.
We've played Merstham already this season and it did not go well. The hammered us 3-1 in a game where ex-boss Bird "outsmarted" us every step of the way.
Leatherhead still lie in third so it is still all to play for. Kick off at 3pm. See you there.

Sittingbourne are coming
Leatherhead host Sittingbourne tonight in this rearranged fixture. They find themselves currently sitting in 8th but it is another side that has scored more than us.
Meanwhile I will be boarding a plane. Expect the good form to end soon then.
Kick off at 7.45. Good luck fellas.

Worthing 1 - 3 Tanners
Another impressive display on the road with a 3-1 win over Worthing today. Tommy had a great game creating the chance for Bradbrook collect the ball, beat a defender and send the 'keeper the wrong way to open the scoring.
Tommy then went on to score a brace himself with a converted penalty and a fine piece of anticipation by pouncing on a poor pass from Worthing to then round the 'keeper and slot the ball into the back of the net.
Worthing get a goal to spoil the party but the three points head north up the A24...

Travelling Tanners
Well. Not for the first time I find myself promising that I should stay away more often as our form leaps while I am away. Sadly for me there are all to many of you wishing I would do this but I return next Saturday. Sorry.
Leatherhead hit the A24 on Saturday to face Worthing. Worthing sit in ninth but have a pretty impressive goal tally. 44 goals which is joint highest with the top two sides in the league.
Directions can be found here. Kick off at 3pm. Good luck fellas.
