After two months, I have decided to rekindle my love for The Lip... and what a time to do it with a fine 2-0 win over second place Northwood.
Our visit to Northwood was a disaster as we failed to deal with some of their taller players. It appears these have been snaffled up by other teams, so it was a very different side that visited us today. That being said, they are in second place for a reason and quite capable of ruining another afternoon for me.
That was not the case as we played attacking football from the start and limited the visitors to scraps.
Our opening goal came just before the half hour. We had wasted a few chances but finally a low cross was met by a player and slid it into the back of the net. Omarr Lawson being the player to pounce.
We stopped outside the away dressing room in the hope of hearing a full-throttle expletive-ridden teamtalk but it appeared the manager just gave his team the silent treatment and nothing could be heard.
Second half and Leatherhead did not let up the pressure. Leatherhead being Leatherhead meant that a second goal would be needed to calm the nerves.
It came from a Keane Anderson header, doing well to adjust his body while picking himself up off the floor having just missed an attempt seconds earlier.
The referee then put the result when he sent off the Northwood left back for bringing down one of our players as we attacked on the break. The referee decided that as there was no covering defender within the original boundaries of space or time, he was the last man and had to go.
A fine win but Leatherhead find themselves stuck in the bottom half but are at least building some momentum to take us into the Surrey Senior Cup on Tuesday...
